Word Meanings

Wonderland (वंडरलैंड) = आश्चर्यलोक, अनोखी दुनिया  

Tarts (टार्ट्स) = एक तरह की मिठाई  

Knave (नैव) = बेईमान व्यक्ति, ताश में ‘J’ की पत्ती

Stole (स्टोल) = चोरी किया (Steal = चोरी करना का भूतकाल)

Witness (विटनेस) = गवाह, प्रत्यक्षदर्शी

Tip (टिप) = गिरना या पलटना

Punish (पनिश) = सजा देना

Curious (क्यूरियस) = जिज्ञासु, विलक्षण. अजीब

A. Answer the following questions:
1. Why was the knave of Hearts taken as a prisoner?

Answer – The knave of Hearts was taken as a prisoner because he was accused of stealing the tarts made by the Queen of Hearts.

2. Why did the king wear the wig and the crown?

Answer – The king wore both the wig and the crown so that the people might know he was a judge as well as a king.

3. How many members were there in the jury?

Answer – <This is a wrong question and nowhere the number of jury member is mentioned in the text.>

4. What did the Queen say when she was angry?

Answer – When the Queen was angry, she used to say, “Off with her head.”

5. Is this a real story or a dream? Read out the line that justifies your answer.

Answer – This is not a real story but a dream. The following sentence justifies the answer – “The next thing, Alice woke up out of her curious dream.”

6. Why did the cards become angry?

Answer – The cards became angry because Alice had insulted them by calling that she did not care for them and they are nothing but a pack of cards.

7. Did the cards really tumble down on Alice? Read out the line from the story to support your answer.

Answer – No, the cards did not really tumble down on Alice. The following line from the story supports this answer –
“… and she found that the cards were only some leaves of the trees that the wind had blown down upon her face.”
