Answer the following questions.

1. Why did Adam Smith call Kailash Satyarthi?

Answer – Adam Smith called Kailash Satyarthi to take his interview because he had won the Noble Prize for Peace.

 

2. Why was Kailash Satyarthi awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace?

Answer – Kailash Satyarthi was awarded the Noble Prize for Peace in 2014 for his struggle against the suppression of children and young people; and for the right of all children to education.

 

3. What did Kailash Satyarthi say on being congratulated by Adam Smith?

Answer – Kailash Satyarthi thanked Adam Smith and said that it was a great moment for hundreds of millions of children in the world who are deprived or their childhood and health and education, and fundamental right to freedom.

 

4. What is the ‘End Child Slavery Week’?

Answer – The ‘End Child Slavery Week’ is an event which was organised from 19th November to 25th November 2014. It is thought to be an annual event on different aspects and the abolition of child slavery which is a crime against humanity.

 

5. What does Satyarthi mean by ‘planet’ in the text?

Answer – ‘Planet’ in the text is used for our home planet Earth.

 

6. As children how can you help in the movement started by Kailash Satyarthi?

Answer – As children we can make our parents and society aware about the destructive outcomes of child slavery. We can ask their help in abolition of this criminal practice. We can also report to police when we see any child labour.

 

7. Which are the two ways in which people can help to abolish child slavery according to Satyarthi?

Answer – According to Satyarthi, the two ways in which people can help to abolish child slavery are –

1. The sense of recognition must be developed that child slavery still exists in its ugliest form which is a crime against humanity.

2. There is also a need of higher amount of political will and corporate engagement and the engagement of public towards it.

 

8. “Child labour still exists in the world.” Do you agree with the statement? Give reasons.

Answer – I agree with the statement that child labour still exists in the world. We can see children below age working in hotels, garage, shops and even in home. Though, it is a criminal offense they are forced to work at the tender age due to poverty.

The seed was no bigger than the nail on Deepa’s little finger. It was as hard as a nutshell.
