A. Answer the following questions:

1. Why is Naranbhai Karangia called the “Peacock Doctor”?
Answer - Naranbhai Karangia is called the “Peacock Doctor” because he has devoted his life to treat our national bird peacock. Whenever he learns that a peacock is ill or injured, he rushed to it to treat.

2. What is the Advanced Locality Management Programme?
Answer - Advanced Locality Management Programme is a beautification programme of the Mumbai Municipality.

3. How has Sharma helped clean up his street?
Answer - Sharma has helped clean up his street by implementing the Advance Locality Management Programme with the help of the residents. The Mumbai Municipality gave priority to the street’s problems and it became green and lovely.

4. How did the singer ‘Abhijeet’ help the couple and the accident victim?
Answer - Abhijeet sent the couple in his car to the nearest hospital. He then drove the accident victim in the couple’s car there. He convinced the doctors to admit and treat him. This way he helped them.

5. What message do you get from the story “The Noteworthy Singer”?
Answer - The message that we get from the story “The Noteworthy Singer” is that we should never hesitate to help road accident victims. By helping them, we can save their lives.

6. Why does Vasant Kalbag promote ‘kindness’ among people?
Answer - Vasant Kalbag promotes kindness among the people because he believes that doing selfless acts not only help others but it also boosts our health and longevity.

7. How was Amala Mary able to prevent the rail tragedy?
Answer - When Amala Mary saw the debris on the rail tracks and found that a train was coming, she rushed waving the pallu of her red sari. The driver saw and slowed the train. She warned him about the land-slide and he stopped the train. Thus she was able to prevent the rail tragedy.

8. What is the Kalpana Chawla award given for?
Answer - Kalpana Chawla award is given for courage and daring enterprise.
