Word Meanings

Put on (पुट ऑन) = पहनना, धारण करना, चढ़ाना  

Town (टाउन) = नगर

Field (फील्ड) = मैदान, खेत

Parent (पेरेंट) = माता-पिता

In charge (इन चार्ज) = काम सौंपना, प्रभार देना  

Calf (काफ) = बछड़ा (गाय का बच्चा)

Bullock cart (बुलक कार्ट) = बैलगाड़ी

Cot (कॉट) = खटिया, चारपाई  

Courtyard (कोर्टयार्ड) = आंगन

Backyard (बैकयार्ड) = पीछे का आंगन

Rush (रश) = तेजी से दौड़ना, झपटना  

Verandah (वरांडा) = बरामदा

Jingle (जिंगल) = छोटी घंटी की आवाज, टनटन की आवाज

Well (वेल) = कुंआ

Clinging (क्लिंगिंग) = चिपक जाना, पकड़ लेना

Complain (कम्प्लेन) = शिकायत

A. Answer the following questions:
1. Bhola was not going to town with his parents but he was very happy. Why?
Answer – Bhola was not going to town with his parents but he was very happy because he was left in charge of the home.

2. Bhola was left behind at home to do a lot of work. Make a list of the things he had to do.
Answer – Following are the things that Bhola had to do –
(i). To take care of Dadima, keep her room warm with charcoal and give her warm milk and medicine on time.
(ii) To feed the cattle and the birds.
(iii) To keep an eye on the rabbit.

3. Write the things Bhola asked his parents to bring from the town market.
Answer – Bhola asked the following things to bring from the town market –
(i) Some sweets.
(ii) Colour pencils
(iii) A drawing book.

4. Why did Bhola’s parents smile at the end?
Answer – Bhola’s parents smiled at the end because Bhola had tried hard to do things well as no one was complaining. Though, they also knew that somehow he had done some mistakes too.

B. Write true / false against each of the statements:
1. Bhola did his work well. (True)
2. His parents were angry with him. (False)
3. The animals and birds did not complain about anything. (True)
4. The ducks fed themselves. (False)
5. The kid did not get water. (False)
6. The rabbit was in the well. (False)

A. Look at the following sentence from the text and see how it has been reported:

Note: As you can see, we follow the following rules to change sentences expressing advice, request, order etc.
1. Change the reporting VERB to advise, request, order etc.
2. Write ‘to’ before the reported VERB.
Change the following sentences into Indirect speech:

Mrs. Khan has given some instructions to her son Zafar.
