Word Meanings - 

Glorious (ग्लोरियस) = प्रसिद्ध, महान, यशस्वी 

Whitewasher (वाइटवॉशर) = पुताई करने वाला

Blossom (ब्लॉसम) = फूलना, खिलना

Vegetation (वेजिटेशन) = वनस्पतियाँ

Cheerfulness (चीयरफुलनेस) = प्रसन्नता, खुशी

Bucket (बकेट) = बाल्टी

Survey (सर्वे) = सर्वेक्षण, ध्यान से देखना

Gladness (ग्लैडनेस) = प्रसन्नता, खुशी

Plank (प्लांक) = तख्ता, फलक, लकड़ी का लम्बा-पतला टुकड़ा

Reading Comprehension
A. Answer the following questions.
1. What was the name of the town?
Answer - The name of the town was Cardiff Hill.

2. What was the work allotted to Tom?
Answer - Tom was allotted the work of white-washing the 30 yards broad fence.

3. Where was Jim going?
Answer - Jim was going to bring water from the town pump.

4. Who were Tom’s friends?
Answer - Jim, Ben, Billy Fisher, Johny Miller and many other boys were Tom’s friends.

5. What attracted Jim?
Answer - A marble and the chance to see Tom’s sore toe attracted Jim.

6. Make a list of five things collected by Tom from his friends.
Answer - Following is the list of the things Tom collected from his friends –
(i) A kite.
(ii)Twelve marbles.
(iii) A dead rat with a string.
(iv) Part of a harp.
(v) A piece of blue bottle.
(vi) A couple of tadpoles.
(vii) Six firecrackers
(viii) A kitten with only one eye
(ix) The handle of a knife
(x) Four pieces of orange peel
Note – You can choose any five from the list that you find interesting.

Grammar
A. Make a list of describing words occurring in the lesson.
Example: bright –
Answer - fresh, cheerfulness, gladness, long, broad, high, hate, happiness, peaceful, nice (add more of your own)

B. Add - ‘ness’ to the adjectives to form ‘nouns’. Add some more words.
Example: glad + ness = gladness

happy, kind, polite, rich, good
happy + ness = happiness
kind+ ness = kindness
polite + ness = politeness
rich + ness = richness
good + ness = goodness
Added some more words –
bright + ness = brightness
clever + ness = cleverness
red + ness = redness
dark + ness = darkness
great + ness = greatness

C. Add - ‘ly’ to the adjectives to form ‘adverbs’. Add some more words.
Example: peaceful + ly = peacefully

careful, truthful, graceful, beautiful, faithful, cheerful 
careful + ly  = carefully
truthful + ly = truthfully
graceful + ly = gracefully
beautiful + ly = beautifully

D. Work in pairs and practise the following dialogues.
A - Do you like drinking milk?
B - Yes, I do.
or
No, I don’t.
Now make similar dialogues using phrases given in the box.

F. Work in pairs and make sentences similar to the example:
Sarita wants to do many things. Sarita's teacher gave her advice.
Make sentences as in the example given below.
Example:
