SECTION A – PATRIOTISM

 

Comprehension –

I. Answer the following questions.

 1. What is patriotism?

Answer – Patriotism in simple word is one’s love or devotion for one’s country. Patriotism is not always about the big sacrifice, one can be patriotic by doing simple and small things like respecting our culture or standing up for our National Anthem.

 2. Why is the National Anthem not played in the cinema halls these days?

Answer – The National Anthem is not played in the cinema halls these days because it was found that people used to leave the hall midway during the National Anthem which was disrespectful. So, the government decided the stop playing of the National Anthem.

 3. Why did Nanaji take Ajit and Naina to Himapet?

Answer – Nanaji took Ajit and Naina to Himapet to show them the real example of patriotism.

 4. Why did Akash decide to settle down in India? What does it show about his

character?

Answer – Akash decided to settle down in India because he wanted to repay his country’s debt of educating him. He came back to serve him country and the countrymen. It shows his real patriotism towards him motherland.

 5. How did the villagers express their gratitude to the service provided by Akash?

Answer – The villages launched a drive to collect donations for building a small hospital in the village and named it as ‘Akash Memorial Hospital’ in his memory.  The also invited his parents and his father inaugurated the hospital.

6. What difference do you notice between Akash and his friends?

Answer – Akash had a true sense of love and devotion for his country. He chose to serve the country and countrymen leaving the luxurious life and wealth. He even sacrificed his life treating his countrymen during epidemic. Whereas his friends chose to live a comfortable life and earn money in America. The preferred luxury over country.

 7. If you were in Akash’s position what would you have done?

Answer – If I would have been in Akash’s position, I would have done the same as he did to serve his country. Though not all of us have the courage to sacrifice to the extent Akash did.

III. Compound words
